Abstract: This phenomenological study aimed to describe the experiences and discover the truth behind the domestic abuse against women at home. This study involved ten women who experienced violence in General Santos City. This phenomenological study presented evidence about the informant's experiences, challenges, coping mechanisms, and their insights and realizations as victims of domestic violence. Additionally, this study aimed to go deeper into the heart of the issue and bring to the fore the standpoints, perceptions, insights, and feelings of women who experienced domestic abuse. Based on the gathered data, the participants' description of their experiences as victims of domestic violence has four themes: experiences are varied and triggered by several factors, the abuse started early in the relationship, physical manifestations, and severe violence were experienced. Meanwhile, the themes for the participants' coping mechanisms and challenges were multi-faceted; coping techniques were necessary, authorities were informed, and physical, emotional, and mental aspects were all affected. Lastly, the themes for the insights and realizations of the participants are strength and independence, which are essential for women; a woman should know her true worth, domestic violence is life-changing, and advice for potential victims.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the use of blended learning in learners’ acquisition of English language skills in national and extra-county schools in Western region, Kenya. The main study objective was to determine the use of blended learning in enhancing learners’ acquisition of English language skills in national and extra-county schools in Western region, Kenya. The theoretical basis of the study was Social Constructivism and Connectivism. The study sample was 343 Form 3 students; 32 English teachers; 16 principals of national and extra county schools; 4 County Quality Assurance and Standards Officers and 2 Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development language specialists. The study sample was 397 respondents selected through simple random, cluster and purposive sampling techniques. The study design adopted was Descriptive Survey. Data was collected through an interview schedule, questionnaire, written task and observation. The data was analyzed using SPSS. The study findings showed that the schools which used blended learning more frequently recorded an improved performance in the acquisition of specific language skills, which shows that the use of blended learning positively influences the learners’ acquisition of these skills. The study recommends that the key technologies for the use of blended learning and their frequent use should be encouraged so as to change the attitudes, beliefs and opinions of teachers and learners towards blended learning since their perception towards the use of these platforms directly influences learners’ acquisition of reading and writing skills in English.

Abstract: This study sought to investigate the influence of availability of computer facilities on integration of information communication technology in teaching and learning in public primary schools in Kakamega County, Kenya. The study objectives sought to: determine the influence of availability of computer facilities for ICT integration in teaching and learning in public primary schools in Kakamega County, establish the level of adequacy of computer facilities for integration of ICT in teaching and learning public primary schools in Kakamega County and to examine the influence of missing computer facilities for ICT integration in teaching and learning in public primary schools in Kakamega County in Kenya.  The study used Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge model. Descriptive survey design was used for the study. Census, proportionate, simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used for the study. The sample size included 356 and 189 public primary school teachers and head teachers respectively, and 1 county director of education. The study used questionnaires and interview schedules to collect data. Data was presented using tables and charts and it was analyzed both a quantitatively and qualitatively. The Chi-square (x²) test was used to determine the degree of relationship between teachers' integration of information communication technology and teaching and learning in public primary schools. The study was significant in that, the findings may help policy makers develop policies that may improve on how teachers in future can integrate computer facilities into teaching and learning, particularly in primary schools.  The study therefore recommends that, in order to provide public primary schools with adequate computer facilities and to increase the number of schools receiving grants in order to raise money for purchasing computer facilities for schools, the government should consider the possibility of forming partnerships with sponsors like Computer for Schools Kenya and New Partnership for Africa’s Development.

Abstract: This phenomenological study aimed to understand the stories told by the Criminology Faculty of Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges, General Santos City on their teaching experiences amidst COVID-19 pandemic. This study utilized a qualitative research design which specifically used a phenomenological approach with the seven full-time Criminology Faculty chosen through purposive sampling. It was notably that the participants experienced were emerged into themes: participants were really challenged, adjustment is necessary, become tech savvy, flexibility is crucial, extend understanding towards students, practice time management, handle more responsibilities, appreciate job, and provide consultation. As to the challenges the following are the themes created: internet connection, health issue, gadget exposure, technology struggle, and frustration. For the coping mechanisms, the following are the themes: adjustment of technology, be optimistic, attend training and seminars, trust in the Lord, and learn from colleagues. And for the insights shared by the participants the following themes were created: accept changes, be grateful, develop oneself, adapt different teachings style, motivate students, and keep the willingness to learn. This study implicates to have a better contingency plan in case a new phenomenon happens and to focus for future researchers on the experiences of Criminology Faculty on the blended mode of education as well as to the adjustments returning of face-to-face classes.

Abstract: This study determined the management skills and its effect on the implementation of reformatory and drug prevention program of 109th Base Command of Moro Islamic Liberation Front. A total of 154 respondents from of Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces and Personnel of Reformatory Center. A descriptive correlational research design was employed. In analyzing the data, weighted mean and Pearson r were utilized. Results disclosed that management skills of individual were moderately skillful. Moreover, the implementation of reformatory program were moderately implemented. Further the implementation of drug prevention program was very important. Results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between management skills and implementation of reformatory programs, and a significant relationship between management skills and the implementation of drug prevention program. The study on management skills, implementation of reformatory, and drug prevention programs is crucial as it can provide valuable insights and evidence-based strategies to enhance leadership, organizational effectiveness, and outcomes of reformatory initiatives and drug prevention efforts.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of battered women who remained in an abusive relationship. Phenomenological approach under qualitative research was employed in this study with ten (10) participants from Region XII. Additionally, an in depth interview and focus group discussion were conducted to gather the data. The results of the interview were transcribed, translated and coded to produce themes. As regards the experiences, the following were the themes: stayed because of children, feeling ashamed, deprived with rights, no choice, still hopeful and embrace the reality. Looking upon their challenges, the following themes were created: being mentally abused. Threats, emotionally depressed, dependent to husband, low morale, about to lose hope and self-blaming. As to their coping mechanism, the following themes were: being courageous, keep being patient, talking to partner, making oneself busy and self-motivation. As to their hopes and aspirations, the following themes were generated: think wisely, deal with partner carefully, women should be respected, hope for the better, be brave enough, protect your rights and help other battered women. This study lies in its potential to inform interventions and policies that can help prevent and address intimate partner violence, a pervasive global issue affecting millions of women around the words.

Abstract: This paper studies pragmatic-discourse analysis of a political speech from perspective of speech acts. In this paper, the writer attempted to do the research related to Martin Luther King Jr.’s a famous speech. The Title of doing this research is ‘A Pragmatic-Discourse Analysis of Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ from the Perspective of Speech Acts’. The aim of doing this research is to study the pragmatic-discourse features from the Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech from the perspective of speech acts. This research was conducted with Austin’s Speech Act Model (1962) and John Searle’s Revised Speech Act Model (1969). It took a month. Martin Luther King Jr.’s a famous speech ‘I Have a Dream’ was used as the primary source of data. Data were collected and analyzed by using quantitative and qualitative research methods. Due to findings from the research, the speaker used both illocutionary speech acts and perlocutionary speech acts. The most type of illocutionary speech acts is expressive in 32.65%, the second most type is directive in 22.45%, the third most type is declarative in 20.41% and the least ones are representative and commissive in 12.24% each. Concerning perlocutionary speech acts, it was found that the most type of perlocutionary speech acts is public motivation in 44.64%, the second most types are the arouse and hopefulness in 17.86% each, the third most type is dissatisfaction in 12.5% and the least ones are hopelessness and enthusiasm in 3.57%. Overall, both types of illocutionary speech acts pointed out the relevant pragmatic features of the speech and its discourse features were also found from locutionary speech acts which were used by the speaker in his whole speech. In brief, all findings from this research will be supportive for further research related to pragmatic-discourse study of the speeches.

Abstract: The study assessed the determinants of farmer participation in the use of harvested rainwater in dams for coping with climate change in Siavonga District. Coping strategies to climate change have involved dam construction for water harvesting and use for economic activities. With five dams constructed in the three agricultural camps (Simamba, Gwena, and Chaanga), three identified coping activities included gardening, fishing, and livestock which were shaped differently by demographic factors. However, the factors were not known to have been compared in the area of how they influenced coping activities. Thus, the objectives of the study were to assess how farmer factors affected coping levels of gardening, fishing, and livestock around the dams; compared levels of effect among the economic activities, identified the dominant factors under each activity and across the three activities. The sample size consisted of 333 farmers in the three agricultural camps and a binary regression model was used for analysis. Empirical findings revealed that the effect differed by type of activity.

Abstract: Azanza garckeana (Gongotula) also known as ‘Miracle plant’ is an important economic and pharmaceutical plant. In this study the fruit was evaluated for its chemical profile due to its acclaimed multipurpose use. The mean results revealed higher amounts of tannins (7.0 mg/100g) and flavonoids (6.8 mg/100g) than steroids (1.5 mg/100g), terpenoids (1.5 mg/100g), anthraquinones (0.8 mg/100g), alkaloids (0.8 mg/100g) and saponins (0.8 mg/100g). Oxalates were found abundant (36.1µM) while phytic acid (3.6 µM) and cyanide (1.4 µM) were detected low. Carbohydrates (60.3%) was the most abundant constituent of the proximate composition while crude protein (10.3%), crude fibre (11.3%) and moisture content (9.7%) were found moderate while ash content (4.7%) and total fat (3.7%) were detected low. Calcium (98.0mg/g) was detected higher followed by magnesium (66.0 mg/g), phosphorus (0.10 mg/g) was the least mineral detected. The order of amino acid composition was proline > valine > 1soleucine > glycine > threonine > cysteine >  Aspartic acid = Methionine = Tyrosine = Histidine > arginine = leucine  > alanine > serine > glutamic acid. The work carried out showed Azanza garckeana fruit as a good source of important phytochemicals, minerals and amino acids. isolation and purification of these bioactive agents from  Azanza garckeana fruit is hereby recommended.
